As part of the Illinois Farm Bureau, we have the luxury, and responsibility, of participating in grassroots policy development, and CCFB members take this responsibility seriously.

The policy that leads our organization starts at home, in the counties, through a resolution proposals submitted to the county Farm Bureau board of directors for approval.  Once approved, the resolution makes its way to a state-wide resolutions committee.  Then, if approved, it moves to the full delegate body at the year’s Illinois Farm Bureau Annual Meeting.  This year’s delegates heard 12 resolutions submitted by Champaign County members.

Of these resolutions, many were passed into official Illinois Farm Bureau policy, including an initiative to expand open deer hunting season and a resolution to oppose ---- cash rent leases for University owned farmland.  Other resolutions from Champaign County included

CCFB President, Scott Bidner, feels that the policy development process is the most crucial aspect of Farm Bureau membership.  “Knowing what our organization stands for, and its policy initiatives for the year is very important” said Bidner.  This is why all Champaign County Farm Bureau members will be receiving a policy book in the coming month’s issue of Farm Week.  For more immediate information on Illinois Farm Bureau policy, visit www.ilfb.org.
